KUALA LUMPUR: Claims that police failed to act within 24 hours in filing a missing person’s report for a teenage girl have been denied by the authorities.
Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor of the Sungai Buloh police district addressed the social media post, which suggested the police were reluctant to take action on the girl’s disappearance within the first 24 hours.
However, investigations revealed that the report was officially lodged just three hours and 11 minutes after the girl’s mother lost contact with her, with the case number Kuang 3482/24.
“This confirms that the police followed proper procedure and did not delay the report’s filing,” Hafiz explained.
In addition, Hafiz urged caution among the public in sharing unverified information, warning that doing so could result in legal consequences under Malaysian law.
“Anyone found guilty of spreading misinformation may face up to two years in jail or a fine of RM50,000, or both,” Hafiz warned.
Gya Natasya Abdullah, the missing teenager, had disappeared after leaving her home in Taman Matang Jaya to go to work in Cheras. Fortunately, she was located the following morning by a woman on her way to work and has since returned home to her mother.
